Our reliable and efficient fridge removal team will collect your fridge from your property (inside or outside) within a 2-hour time slot that is convenient for you and you will be issued with a hazardous waste consignment note.
Once collected, the fridge will be assessed to determine if it can be re-used. If not, the fridge will be recycled at a specialist processing plant in accordance with the WEEE directive.
Waste is determined to be ‘hazardous’ under the government’s environmental legislation (see here) when it contains substances or has properties that can make it harmful to human health or the environment. However, this does not necessarily mean it is an immediate risk to human health, although some waste can be.
Most refrigerators have a life span of approx. 10 years. However, at some point, it will need to be replaced. It is very important at this point to recycle it correctly as fridges contain refrigerants (the substance that keeps your fridge cool by absorbing heat) that are potent greenhouse gases, and therefore, harmful to the environment.
If we believe the fridge cannot be re-used, it will be sent for processing at a dedicated recycling plant. Although over 95% of an average fridge is recyclable, it is still deconstructed within a sealed environment so that any harmful substances can be safely removed.
Once this has been achieved, the rest of the fridge materials are separated into individual streams, including plastics, ferrous and non-ferrous metals and foam to be recycled or reused.
