What were the main challenges?
The main challenge of completing the project was the tight deadline. This was due to office furniture (loose and stationary) being left within the building when it was planned to removed before we started. Therefore, the furniture needed removing before we could start the strip-out.
Strip out included:
As part of the strip out we had to remove the following:
- Fixtures and fittings
- Loose general waste
- Reception desk
- Sinks
- Pipework
- Office furniture disposal
- Plasterboard disposal
Waste removed included:
To meet the deadline, we implemented 2 x two-man teams to remove the waste. The waste was taken from the site using a combination of 40-yard skips and cage tipper vehicles. With regards to removing the plaster, we used a special plasterboard skip.
The majority of the waste taken was steel and timber which was sent for recycling / reprocessing. The remaining general waste was disposed of at fully licensed waste transfer stations. Using this process, we were able to divert 95% of the waste from landfills.
